12-07-16 EU National Strategic Reference Framework Funds for teacher hiring
The Education Ministry has secured 216.1 million euros in National Strategic Reference Framework Funds for the hiring of needed substitute teachers who will cover vacancies nationwide in the upcoming 2016-17 school year.
That amount will be supplemented by annual state budget funding and the state public investment programme. In this way, the ministry expects that all schools and courses nationwide will be fully staffed from the very first day of classes, as Education Minister Nikos Filis has pledged.
As of today already, the system for electronic email submission of applications by candidates for substitute postings is in place. The invitations pertain to teachers in 28 different categories of university backgrounds, who are eligible for substitute slots or hourly teaching appointments.
That includes university education (PE) categories PE 01 – PE 18, PE 19 and 20, PE 32-34, PE 40, PE 60, PE 70, PE 73, as well as teachers in the technical education background category TE 01, and high school education category DE 01 (the last serve as assistants in vocational high schools).
In the related Education Ministry Encyclical, there are analytic instructions on how to register in the Comprehensive Computerised System, on the application submission procedure, and the regions where hiring will occur. This year for the first time, candidates may apply, in order of preference, for substitute and hourly slots in all regions.
