19-07-16 Pelegrini, Attica officials prepare school equipment for refugees
Deputy Education, Research and Religious Affairs Minister Theodosis Pelegrinis met today to discuss issues related to the schooling of refugee children with Deputy Prefect for South Attica Christos Kapatai, Deputy Prefect for Administration Elissavet Tasouli, and the competent official for education, Eleni Zografaki.
At the meeting it was agreed that school supplies will be procured from Attica Prefecture and be distributed in September to the 4,628 refugee children who are residing at seven temporary reception centres in the Attica Prefecture.
“We are obliged to assist in the efforts of the Attica Prefecture, so that the children who live at temporary reception centres may attend schools with the necessary supplies and equipment, just as any other student,” Pelegrini said.
Deputy Prefect Christos Kapatai underlined that, “We want the cooperation of the education ministry in the efforts that we began one year ago. In particular, the Centre for the Management, Storage and Provision of essential supplies in Faliro has contributed substantially to meeting the needs of refugees.”
All parties at the meeting agreed that this is just the start of further joint actions by the Education Ministry and Attica Prefecture to assist refugees.
