11-08-16 Ministry stresses importance of vocational advising
A decision establishing a Day of School Vocational Orientation, for students in the third and final year of junior high school (gymnasia) was signed by Education Minister Nikos Filis.
The aim of the project is to provide reliable and timely information, advice and support to students regarding the choices and options they have after graduation.
According to the decision, which is to first be implemented in the 2016-2017 school year, Career Counselors (SEP), and directors of Centres for Advice and Orientation (KESYP) must draft an analytical, daily programme of visits to schools, and to submit it for approval to the corresponding teachers’ associations.
In the event that a school has an insurmountable conflict, the visit is rescheduled. The comprehensive programme should be forwarded to schools through the local Directorates of Secondary Education at the start of the school year, so that the visits can be included in the school’s yearly activities planning.
