17-08-16 Application procedures for higher Schools of Dramatic Arts-Acting
Examinations for admission to the acting department of higher dramatic arts schools for the 2016-2017 academic year will be conducted by a committee of the culture ministry, beginning Wednesday, September 28, at 9 am.
For the tests in “Acting” and “Recitation-Song”, the location of the examination and an alphabetical list of examinees by day will be announced by the Directorate of Artistic Education and posted at the building at 1 Rethymnou Street, Athens, and on the internet at www.yppo.gr (Contemporary Culture, Information for Citizens/Theatre and Dance Examinations).
Upon completion of oral examinations, those who passed the first two tests will be notified, with an announcement from the competent directorate, regarding the location and time of the written exam in “Basic theoretical knowledge of theatre history and literature”.
The necessary documentation to take admissions tests is as follows:
- Application (available in print form at the ministry protocol and in electronic form at www.yppo.gr (Contemporary Culture, Information for Citizens/Theatre and Dance Examinations). It must be signed, is equivalent to a notarised statement, lists personal data as they appear on the state-issued police ID card – name, father’s name, etc. - and must include an email, place of residence, telephone number, and the type of high school diploma received.
- Photocopy of high school diploma or six-year old-system high school diploma. For a diploma issued abroad, certification of its equivalence with the Greek high school diploma, issued by the local directorate of secondary school education.
- Photocopy of state-issued police ID card. In case the father’s name does not appear on the passport, it must be officially documented.
Documentation must be submitted by 9 September, 2016:
- At the Culture and Athletics Ministry at 20-22 Bouboulinas Street, Athens 10186, between 8am and 3pm or:
- By certified mail to the Ministry of Culture and Athletics, 20-22 Bouboulinas Street, Athens 10186 (applicant must retain postal receipt).
- By email at In this case the signed application and other documents must be scanned and attached in pdf, doc, docx formats.
Applications not accompanied by required documents or received posted past the deadline will not be considered and the applicant will not be placed on the candidates’ list.
Applicants will be tested in the following:
Α. A monologue of the applicant’s choosing from ancient drama, or the classical or contemporary territory.
B. Reading of a text interpreted under the direction of the examining committee. (The text will be given to candidates in a timely manner on the day of the test).
C. Recitation of a poem and rendition of a song chosen by the applicant.
D. Fundamental theoretical knowledge of theatre history and literature (written exam). The test is in Greek and is conducted after the list of those passing the acting and recitation-song tests is issued.
Successful applicants are those who have the basic qualifications of Theatre Art – good enunciation and vocal clarity, expression and stage presence and who have received a minimum grade of 5 on a scale of 10.
Candidates who fail to appear at an exam or are barred by the committee for whatever reason receives a grade of 1. The exam results are released after the culture ministry certifies the final list, drafted by the examining committee, of those admitted.
The lists will be posted at 1 Rethymnou Street and at the ministry website www.yppo.gr (Contemporary Culture, Information for Citizens/Theatre and Dance Examinations). Submitted documents will not be returned. On the day of the test, candidates must present their state-issued police ID or other formal identification.
Admissions Exams for ‘Talents’ for the 2016-2017 Academic Year.
On 27 September at 10am examinations will be held for “exceptional admission” to the first year of studies at the Higher School of Dramatic Arts (acting department) for candidates who lack a high school or the older six-year high school diploma but who are talented in dramatic arts (talents), and who fulfil the terms of law 1158/1981, article 12, par. 3.
The exam location will be announced by the directorate of artistic education on 21 September, 2016, and will be posted at 1 Rethymnou Street and at the website www.yppo.gr
Applicants must be born by 30 June, 1999.
Documentation, test procedures and the issuance of results are similar to those above, except for the diploma requirement.
