The Greek National Informatics Team has gained distinction once again, this time at the 28th International Olympiad in Informatics (IOI), held between 12-19 August in Kazan, in the Russia Federation.

Athens College student Aristophanes Rontogiannis clinched a bronze medal. At the 24th Balkan Olympiad in Informatics in July, Rontogiannis was awarded a silver medal.

In Russia, the Greek team included Raphael Ketsetsidis (Mantoulidi School), Emmnauel Mihalainas (Second Experimental High School of Thessaloniki, and Konstantinos Agiannis (10th High School of Larisa).

According to the IOI website, “The main objective of the IOI is to promote an interest in IT among students and to develop IT on the school curriculum. Another important goal is to bring together talented students from different countries and enable them to share scientific and cultural experiences.”

“Each country participating at the IOI submits a team of four students, a team leader and a deputy team leader. All team leaders are members of the IOI General Assembly. Currently more than 300 students take part in the Olympiad every year, with more countries scheduled to join.”
