10-11-16 Conference on physical education at Special Education Schools
The Directorate of Physical Education of the Ministry of Education, Research, and Religious Affairs, focusing on the induction of Special Education Schools in primary and secondary school athletic activities, organised a conference at the ministry on 9 November, with the participation of physical education teachers specialising in special education sports and working at Attica special schools.
The Education Ministry’s Physical Education Directorate Supervisor, Konstantinos Alexiou, underlined the duty of educational policy to abide by the right of all students to participate in school activities, with the aim of equal treatment of disabled students, an aim that demonstrates respect and acceptance of differences.
The head of the Special Education Directorate of the Education Ministry, Panagiotis Kassianos, underlined the importance of programmes that induct disabled and special education students in the same schools as others, and of the cooperation between special education and general education schools.
It was decided to create a working group to develop a framework for all athletic activities at special education schools (SMEA).
