10-11-16 Alternate Minister Fotakis outlines research policy progress
Alternate Minister for Education, Research, and Religious Affairs Costas Fotakis addressed the opening session of the 5th Pan-Hellenic Federation of Research Centres – Foundations Personnel, at the National Centre for Scientific Research ‘Demokritos’.
In his remarks, the alternate minister outlined the basic policy priorities in Research and Innovation. He underlined the 200 million euro increase in research spending in 2015, which represents a historic high of 0.96 percent of GDP being spent on research, according to the 2015 data of the National Documentation Centre (EKT).
Minister Fotakis noted that funding for the salaries of regular staff at all research centres and technological institutions in 2016 was fully covered, as were the funds earmarked for the proclamation for 100 new research appointments at all levels for 2017.
Addressing the representatives of research, administrative and technical personnel of all Research Centres, Fotakis extolled the important contributions of the staff and the impressive research projects accomplished in Greece.
