13-07—16 EU funds for doctoral scholarships and work internship programmes
EU National Strategic Reference Framework funds have been earmarked for two university level projects in Greece. The “Programme for the awarding of doctoral scholarships in Greece will receive 4.1 million euros in funding, and a programme for “Job internships in tertiary education” will be funded with 12.4 million euros. The Operational Programme for Human Resources Development, 2014-2020 is the funding framework.
The competent Education, Research and Religious Affairs Ministry division for the National Strategic Reference Framework (Epiteliki Domi ESPA) announces the funding of two projects within the framework of “The Operational Programme for Human Resources Development-Education and Lifelong Learning”, which is co-funded by the European Social Fund (the EU’s main instrument for supporting employment) and the Greek public sector.
The two funded projects are as follows:
- “Programme for awarding scholarships for second cycle doctoral studies in Greece”, with a budget of 4,136,781.80 euros.
The programme for awarding doctoral scholarships is available for doctoral candidates who have commenced their studies before 18-36 months and who are not eligible for scholarships in existing programmes for “Support of human resources in research through doctoral research”. The latter pertains to scholarship recipients who began their Ph.D. programme 18 months or less earlier. This is a one-time scholarship with a duration of 24 months.
- “Practical job internship in tertiary education”, with a budget of 12,421,233.94 euros.
The “Tertiary education internship programme” for the 2016-2017 academic year is a continuation of the 2015-2016 internship programme, with exactly the same budget, 12,421,233.94 euros. It involves the acquisition of professional experience in a real work environment for students at the tertiary education level. The precondition for funding is the incorporation of the area of the job internship in the course of studies of a tertiary educational institution. The distribution of funding to tertiary institutions will be determined in accord with the conclusions of the consultative committee with tertiary institutions.
