21-07-16 New programme briefs refugees on university study in Greece, Europe
Upon the initiative of Alternate Minister of Education, Research and Religious Affairs Sia Anagnostopoulou, Greece will hold its first Summer Academy, “ Beyond the Refugee Crisis – Studying in Europe”.
The pilot programme aims to inform new refugees regarding university education opportunities in Greece and Europe, as well as on admission requirements.
This pioneering educational model has already attracted the interest of European educational organisations and UNESCO. It combines various educational methods and is being run in cooperation with important institutions, such as the Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights (Charter on Education for Democratic Citizenship and Human Rights Education), and the Philosophy Faculty of the University of Athens, for teaching Greek as a second language.
The Summer Academy will be held in Ancient Olympia, in the Peloponnese, between 18-28 August. Participants will reside at the facilities of the international Olympic Academy.
