28-07-2006 Bill lifts time limits for re-issuing degrees to holders of illegal Technical Vocational School degrees
A provision attached to a bill regarding Greek-language education, extends the deadline of law 3577/2007, which states that for degrees of students issued by Technical Vocational Schools, whose operational permits have been revoked due to confirmed illegal actions, the recipients’ diplomas will have to be re-issued, after the recipients sit for a new, required degree exam.
We note that a report (328/Α/2015) of the Inspectors-Controllers Body of Public Administration recommended to the Education Ministry that it amend article 24, paragraph 2 of law 3577/2007, so as to include every illegal case of Technical Vocational Schools’ operation, or the issuance of a degree with no time limit. This amendment constitutes an obligatory act for the [Education Ministry] administration, in conformity with the related report of the Inspectors-Controllers Body of Public Administration.
After this bill is passed into law, the Education Minister will issue a Ministerial Decision which will set the details of compliance with law 3577/2007.
According to the rationale for legislation report that accompanies the bill, the amendment lifts the time limit on the academic years in which the degrees were issued for students in the first and second cycles of Technical Vocational Schools, which have been or will be subjected to the disciplinary measure of suspension of the operation permit, or of the permit for the foundation and operation of a school, or for which at least a monetary fine has been imposed on owners, directors or their teaching personnel, for violations of the terms and obligations of operation of Technical Vocational Education.
The abolition of the time limits on the issuance of these diplomas has as a consequence the mandatory examination of these students, aiming at the legal issuance of diplomas, regardless of the academic year in which the degrees were awarded.
Content of the Bill
In the first sentence of Article 24, paragraph 1 of law 3577/2007 (A’130), after the words “The degrees”, the words “of the academic years 2004-2005, 2005-2006, 2006-2007, and 2007-2008” are deleted.
