28-07-16 Over 120 educators chosen to rationalise primary, secondary school curriculum

The Institute of Educational Policy (IEP), responding to a longstanding demand of the educational community, began the process of rationalising the course material for primary and secondary school education by creating teachers’ working groups.

The large number of applications from teachers demonstrated their interest and the significance of the project.

The IEP welcomed the readiness and concern of teachers to contribute further to the field of education. For its part, the IEP clarified that those teachers not selected in the first phase of the reform will be included in future educational projects of the institute.

As for the teachers who will participate in these working groups, without pay, they were selected at meetings in late June, taking into account the following:

1. The June 6, 2016 announcement of the IEP calling teachers at all levels to declare their interest in participating in the unpaid working groups to rationalise course material in primary and secondary school education.
2. The June 28 IEP announcement that due to the exceptionally large number of application, teachers were asked to send their reform proposals in a text of up to 500 words.
3. The attached minutes of the June 29 and June 30 meetings of the Evaluation Committee on Applications for Rationalisation of Course Material.
4. The need for the immediate formation of working groups to table proposals for the rationalisation of course materials and to send these to schools in a timely manner for the 2016-2017 school year, as well as corresponding guidelines for teachers. Hence, the participation of 122 teachers in working groups was approved.
