16-08-16 New special education schools meet needs nationwide

The decision formalising the establishment of over a dozen special education schools around the country has been published in the Government Gazette (volume B’ 2513/12.08.2016).

The annual operational costs expenditure for the state budget will be 49,800 euros over the next few fiscal years, and 16,600 euros for the rest of this year, which will be covered by the budget of the education ministry.

The municipalities in which the schools are located will have a total annual expenditure of 134,350 for operational costs (52.050 euros for the remainder of 2106). The expenditure will be covered by funds transferred to municipalities by the central government.

The creation of the additional special schools – after a decade with no expansion - was made necessary by a continuously growing number of cases and applications.

Hence, the following special education schools will operate for the first time in the 2016-2017 academic year:
