06-09-16 Nikos Filis meets World Jewish Congress CEO Robert Singer, Jewish community representatives
Education, Research, and Religious Affairs Minister Nikos Filis and Religious Affairs General Secretary Yorgos Kalantzis held informal talks today with World Jewish Congress (WJC) CEO Robert Singer and representatives of the Jewish communities of Greece, at the Education Ministry.
The WJC delegation included Deputy CEO for Diplomacy Maram Stern.
The Jewish communities of Greece were represented by Central Board of Jewish Communities in Greece (KIS) President Moses Constantinis, Jewish Community of Athens representative and KIS member Victor Eliezer , and Jewish Community of Thessaloniki President David Saltiel.
The meeting took place in an excellent climate and the representatives of the World Jewish Congress congratulated the Government of Greece and Education Minister Filis in particular for their positive initiatives and steadfast policy of defending the great ecumenical values of democracy and religious freedom, as well as for their stance on the crucial humanitarian issues of the refugee crisis.
Nikos Filis outlined the education ministry’s policies on combating racism, bigotry and anti-Semitism, as well as on initiatives to keep alive the memory of the Holocaust.
