23-11-16 Third Conference on School Teaching of Natural Sciences

The Educational Radio-Television of the Ministry of Education, Research, and Religious Affairs Participated in the organisation of the 3^rd International Conference STEM Across Europe: making it Real, as a partner of the European Project “Make Science Real in Schools – March”, on Tuesday, 15 November 2016, in London (Burlington House, The Geological Society – Piccadilly Circus). The «MakeScienceRealinSchools – MARCH» is a European Comenius Project, of three-year duration, with co-funding from the EU’s Lifelong Learning programme, and is coordinated by the British Council. The project involves experiential learning of Natural Sciences in Secondary Scools, and is in its last year of implementation (2014-2016).

In the framework of March, a package of good practices, innovative methodologies and pilot implementations in seven participating countries have developed, aiming at making natural sciences attractive for youth.

The conference brought together academics, educators, students, and members of organisations and institutes, who presented good practices and pilot implementations at schools. Meetings, discussions on best practices in and outside of class, and a round table discussion on the future of education in the natural sciences were part of the proceedings.

Greece was represented at the conference by the Division of Educational Radio-Television of the Directorate of Libraries and by teachers from the following schools, following an evaluation of their pilot programmes:

• 26^th General High School of Athens (Marasleio)

“Do you dare wager? Experiments with unexpected results

• Arts Junior High School of Gerakas, Attica, along with high school classes

“Eratosthenes at School”

• 1^st Arsakeio High School of Psyhiko

«Chemistry Wonderland»

A group of students from participating countries enriched the conference with their ideas and presented their own “Youth Manifesto” on the teaching of natural sciences.
