21-06-16 The Ministry of Education, Research and Religion has issued instructions on the transfer of educators to university laboratory teaching personnel posts. Details published in the Government Gazette on May 11, 2016.

“Tenured educators in primary and secondary schools are permitted to transfer to positions of Laboratory teaching personnel (EDIP) at universities and technical schools, with a simultaneous transfer of the position and salary obligations, under the following conditions:

  1. They must possess a Ph.D. degree in the same or a similar academic discipline as will be taught at the university.
  2. They have published academic papers in international academic journals and conferences, related to the academic discipline.
  3. They have after receiving their Ph.D. proven work for at least two academic years at a Greek university or a comparable institution abroad related to the discipline, with teaching experience in scientific, applied, research work, or recognized academic work in their discipline, or at least two years’ experience at a Greek or foreign research institute, or a combination of the above.

The requirements for such transfers are as follows:

  1. An application must be submitted to the educational institution they are currently serving and to the university.
  2. Approval of the competent educational council at the institution where the educator is currently teaching.
  3. A decision of the Office of the Dean, following the recommendation of the competent three-member committee, comprised of two professors and a research faculty member appointed by the Dean. The transfer to a university research teaching faculty position is completed with the approval of the Minister of Education, Research and Religion, which must be published in the Government Gazette. The induction in the specific faculty is confirmed formally by the dean. Those who transfer are subject to the same rank and salary promotions as all university research teaching personnel. In this regard, all years of public educational experience of the educator are taken into account. The transfer can be completed regardless of the time period that has passed since any prior transfer of the educator to another teaching level.

2.a. In accordance with the above provisions, the applicant submits the transfer request to the Directorate of Primary or Secondary education to which they belong, accompanied by a CV.

b. In addition, the applicant must submit to the Dean’s Office and application with all related documentation, and a CV, declaring the faculty to which they are applying.

3. The directorates of secondary education send the Directorate of Secondary Education Personnel, Third Division, at the email dprb@mideu.gov.gr or by FAX at 210-344-2282, the educator’s application, the CV, a certificate of recent educational promotions, a certificate of the authenticity of the documents submitted. Primary Education Directorates send the related material to the Secondary Education Personnel Direcorate, Third Division, at ppe3@minedu.gov.gr.

Following the above, applications are sent to the competent Central Bureau Councils of Primary and Secondary Education. The relevant council decisions are immediately sent by email or FAX to the Education Ministry’s Teriary Education Personnel Directorate, Second Section, which submits them to the relevant Deans’ Offices.

5. At the same time, the university in question evaluates and judges applications. The dean appoints the three-member committees, to evaluate the academic credentials. The committees’ recommendations are transmitted to the Deans Offices, which then relay the decisions to the ministry’s Directorate of Tertiary Personnel, which drafts the required ministerial decision, which is then published in the government Gazette.
