14-07-16 Ministry approves Alexandroupolis school buildings plan
Education, Research and Religious Affairs Minister Nikos Filis has approved the revised building programmes for the construction of new schools in the KEGE area of eastern Alexandroupolis , with the aim of relocating the 4th Gymnasium (high school) and the 2nd General Vocational High School (GEL) of Alexandroupolis, each of which has a 360-student capacity.
The project aims to relieve overcrowding in secondary schools in the city centre, and to improve the distribution plan for students, so as not to exceed the maximum travelling distance for students.
Moreover, the freeing up of space in existing schools will serve the needs of other schools that are already co-housed in the existing buildings, as well as the needs of educational support structures (Physical Sciences Workshops of Evros, the Regional Teachers’ Training Centre of Alexandroupolis or PEK, and the Second Chance School of Alexandroupolis).
