19-07-16 Nikos Filis welcomes home student World Gymnasiade competitors
Minister of Education, Research, and Religious Affairs Nikos Filis last night welcomed at Athens Eleftherios Venizelos Airport the 93-student Greek delegation and their teachers who participated in the World Gymnasiade in Trabzon, Turkey and brought a number of medals home to Greece. Nikos Filis congratulated the students on their successes, as well as the coaches and parents who supported them.
The Greek delegation in Tabzon clinched 37 medals and many distinctions. Thirty countries and 2,000 athletes participated in the ISF 2016 World Gymnasiade.
Addressing the chaperones and students, Filis stressed that aside from distinctions and medals, what is more important is the competitive ethos that they displayed, and their collective efforts throughout the year.
“You made us proud with your competitive ethos, your calmness, and your distinctions and medals, which showed that you worked year round, proving that we can succeed and move forward,” Filis told the student athletes.
