30-08-16 Ministry sets the record straight on pension procedures
Regarding the inaccurate reports in a part of the print press, which have been reproduced on some internet sites, the Ministry of Education, Research, and Religious Affairs must clarify the following:
It is absolutely false that teachers who submitted their retirement papers on or before May 4, 2016 must rescind their retirement application, or that they are at risk of losing their pensions.
The truth is that the overwhelming majority of the 1,350 educators who filed retirement papers, based on law 4386 of 2016 (paragraph 33), having established pension rights on or before May 4, used a provision passed by the ministry, and they will have no problem with receiving their pensions under the terms of the old system.
There is an issue only for a small number of educators who did not meet retirement preconditions by May 4, 2016. For those teachers, the period between May 5 and August 31, 2016, will count as pensionable service, whenever they decide to retire under the new system.
For this reason, the option of revoking pension applications by August 31, 2016, was offered.
