01-09-16 Edulab technology workshops to begin at primary, secondary schools
The Education, Research and Religious Affairs Ministry has proposed the creation of Open Technology Workshops (edulabs) at primary and secondary schools, in the framework of the “act4Greece” crowd-funding platform.
The open technology workshops will contribute to the upgrading of the digital infrastructure at schools, with a view toward strengthening the digital literacy of students. At the same time, students will develop their skills in analysis, design and problem-solving, with the use of computing techniques, and will improve their understanding of the basic principles of the sciences.
Cooperative group activities in the educational process of the workshops will bolster students’ self-esteem, self-confidence and social skills.
The workshops aim also to promote student robotics, a pedagogically attractive and creative activity in which students become familiar with the basic concepts of the natural sciences (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics, STEM) and other subject areas, such as history.
The “act4Greece” programme is supported by the National Bank of Greece and has strategic partnerships with respected institutions, such as the Onassis Foundation, the Latsis Foundation, the Bodossaki Foundation, the Hellenic National Commission for UNESCO, and the Hellenic Network for Corporate Social Responsibility.
