24-10-16 Educational field trips to Olympics Athletics Centre, Panathenaic Stadium
The Ministry of Education, Research, and Religious Affairs, in the framework of upgrading educational school field trips, is carrying out a programme of educational visits and athletic activities for primary school students from around the country at the Panathenaic Stadium and for primary school, junior high school and high school students at the Olympic Athletic Centre (OAKA) of Athens.
The programme at the Panathenaic Stadium offers students a wealth of educational and informational materials on the history of the stadium, which has been a diachronic symbol of athletics, culture, and history in the centre of contemporary Athens. At the same time, through an organised athletic games programme, students can become acquainted first-hand with track events (Kids’ Athletics), basketball, and volleyball. Students at the Panathenaic Stadium will be given an automated guided tour system, so they may become acquainted with every corner of the stadium and its history of over 2,000 years.
The aim of the OAKA programme is to acquaint students with the competition spaces of the Olympic Stadium facilities, where major athletic and cultural events have been held since 1982, culminating in the 2004 Olympic Games. It will also touch on life values that athletics enshrine, with interactive presentations, discussions, lectures, and video presentations.
The programme of the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF), Kids’ Athletics, is a comprehensive programme of mobility and operational skills, which is adjusted to the needs of children based on their age, and entails three categories of competition: track, javelin and discus, and jumping events.
